Results of Fire Still Felt

Mzuzu, Malawi … It has been well over a year since the library at the Mzuzu Campus of the University of Malawi experienced a devastating fire. Not only did the flames destroy the library itself, it destroyed 45,000 books. Shortly after the fire the Student Union President, Wazazama Katatu, made note of the importance of the library when he said, “when we talk of a university, we simply mean the library.”

Even though the loss took place on 18 December 2015 the library continues to need books that are focused on the college and university level. If you have books left over from when you, or others you know were in college, or if you are in contact with a school that might donate library books, the Malawi Project will include them in an upcoming container shipment to Malawi. Needed also are shelves, chairs, tables, and other associated equipment.
