Indiana Church Contributes Nearly 5,000 Pencils

Posted on | March 1, 2009

Evansville, Indiana … An appeal for pencils for the school children of Malawi was posted on the Malawi Project web site on February 2. Responding to the appeal the elders of the Oak Hill Church of Christ in Evansville, PencilsIndiana immediately presented the need to their membership for pencils for Malawi. By the end of the month the 125 members had collected 4,912 brand new pencils to be sent to Malawi. Pictured are a portion of the pencils delivered on March 1 to the Malawi Project.

The nation of Malawi is one of the poorest nations on earth and even a pencil or a piece of paper to make notes on are hard to acquire by many of the poor village people who struggle to send their children to school.

The pencils will be included in a shipment in Malawi leaving Indianapolis later this month to arrive in Malawi in mid-July.Pencils for Malawi

The need for pencils continues, and additional pencils coming into the Project will be included on other shipments later in the year.
