Tragic Accident Claims Two

Posted on | August 18, 2009

Lumbadzi, Malawi… In an early morning automobile accident on August 17, two members of the staff at Mtendere Village were fatally injured. Ruth Chisale and Grace Phambana died at the scene. Grecian, the administrator at Mtendere Children’s Home, and driver of the car, was in critical condition at a Lilongwe Hospital.

Ruth (Ruthie) had worked at the Blessings Complex for a number of years and assisted Dick and Suzi Stephens, Directors of the Malawi Project, in hosting large numbers of teams who came to Malawi to assist in the work.

In recent months Grecian has been serving as the administrator for Mtendere, Grace was a teacher and Ruthie assisted in the care of the children. The relationship between these two women and the children at Mtendere was reflected in a statement from Wilson Tembo who worked at Blessings for a number of years, “These are the people that Mtendere children called Mom and Aunt.”
