PLANTING SEEDS OF PROGRESS

A simple and inexpensive invention – a Corn Planter – is transforming the lives of Malawi’s farmers and villagers. Through the Malawi Project, and Action for Progress, hundreds of farmers now have planting tools that benefit large numbers of people through:

  • Improved yields through uniform seed placement
  • Reduced labor and manual strain
  • Faster planting especially important in unpredictable weather
  • Improved household income and food security

The current distribution of the planters comes at a critical time. Malawi farmers are beginning the planting season.
“We believe that access to the right tools can transform lives,” Action for Progress Executive Director Wilson Tembo emphasizes, “Gone are the days when we relied mainly on our hands. It is very time-consuming, causes back problems, and does not offer sufficient production capability.”

Farmer Thokozani Shaba hailed the durable and easy-to-use invention, saying “With these corn planters, we will now cover more land and save time. Our expectation is to have better harvest this season after uniform planting.”

Through this initiative, the Malawi Project and Action for Progress are investing in the productivity, dignity, and self-reliance of the country’s farmers and people.
