Two Trailers Reach Namikango Hospital … At the Same Time

    When it rains it pours. It is a saying that often has a negative connotation in the circumstances of life. Another saying is that "two are better than one." In this case two instead of one is a really good thing. Although they were Wilson Tembo stand by medical supplies shipped from the U.S.shipped with space between ship dates, two trailers filled with medical supplies arrived in Blantyre, then after being processed through customs, both trailers were released to the Namikango Maternity Hospital in Thondwe just one day apart. To a medical staff, frequently short on medical supplies, the sight of two entire trailers of supplies and equipment was something very difficult to fully comprehend. Before long boxes and bodies started to become a blur as their quick movement carried box after box from the trailer to the warehouse.

    Wilson Tembo, formerly with Blessings Hospital in Lumbadzi, is one of the only people who knew what was coming. He had experienced it many times during his four years as the Warehouse Manager at Blessings, where dozens of trailers filled with millions of dollars in medical aid arrived during his tenure.

Namikango Receives Government Authorization

    The maternity hospital has received authorization to participate in a government-sponsored program in the area in and around the Zomba area. The quality of the facility and its performance has qualified the hospital as a referral center for birthing babies with the government assisting in the patient costs. Almost immediately after receiving the government acceptance the number of women coming to the hospital to give birth increased by about 25 to 30 a month.
