PIKE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS REACH OUT

Malawi Project Pike High School

Malawi Project Pike High SchoolIndianapolis, Indiana … The bell rang, doors sprang open, and students filled the hallways with laughter, conversation and feet rapidly moving to another location. There was only a short time for lunch at Pike High School in Northwestern Indianapolis, Indiana and there was not a minute to waste.

Some students seemed not to notice the covey of community service displays for the Teen Service Fair located between the cafeteria and the west gym. Others gave a passing glance, considering which if any, they would like to commit their time. Most booths called for local involvement, but there was one in particular that called for involvement half way around the world — the nation of Malawi.

Supriya Chittajallu, a senior at Pike visited the Malawi Project booth, and made this observation, “I visited Kenya in 2011 and Africa holds a special place in my heart. After seeing the impact the Malawi Project is having I was determined to get involved.”

Supriiya got involved and by February 2017 had collected 425 books from the school libraries to send to Malawi.

At the same time Bayleigh Arnold and Jason Cole looke over the opportunities the Project offered and told their instructor and the ROTC class aboutwhat they could do to help. The group accepted the challenge and in two months collected 25 large boxes of clothes, shoes and school supplies.
